We invite all faithful Buddhists to join us in sponsoring and attending San Fran Dhammaram Temple’s 2018 Kathina. The annual fundraiser will be held at the Hall of Flowers (Lincoln Way @ 9th Ave) in Golden Gate Park on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 9:30am – 2:30pm. Join us at the temple for Kathina preparations, starting at 1pm on November 3, and pre-Kathina chanting ceremonies, at 6pm – 8pm on Saturday, November 3.

San Fran Dhammaram Temple is situated at 2645 Lincoln Way (@ 28th Ave), San Francisco, CA 94122. Established in 2002 by Enlightened Venerable Acariya Thoon Khippapanyo (1935-2008), SFDT serves as a pillar for the community and is a great resource for the Buddha’s teachings. SFDT holds annual Dhamma retreats, weekly Dhamma discussions, daily sermons, and produces various media including sermons and Q&A on our YouTube channels, as well as Dhamma books in Thai, English, and German.

As a result of this outreach, our membership has continued to grow; with more and more dedicated practitioners traveling from around the world to learn Dhamma at SFDT. In response to this increased demand, in 2015, we purchased a 4-story, 3,000 sqft building at 2701 Lincoln Way (right across the street from the Temple) to serve as a female practitioner’s residence. Since establishing Akaliko, we have been able to accommodate female overnight practitioners in addition to their male counterparts. However, the Akaliko building is over 100 years old and past heavy rains have caused the wooden walls and floor to rot. If these problems remain unaddressed, the entire building may collapse. For this reason, SFDT is raising funds to pay for the expense of the restoration project, currently estimated to cost $300,000.

We invite you to contribute to the Akaliko Restoration Project during the auspicious Kathina fundraiser. Making merit with a Buddhist temple established by an Enlightened monk is a rare opportunity in contemporary times. Your donation helps sustain the Buddhist religion in the USA as well as enables others to benefit from the robust resources SFDT provides. By the power of the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha, may you be prosperous, blessed with good health and happiness, and may all your aspirations attain fruition.

To sponsor the Kathina, you may: 1) stop by the temple in person; 2) mail a check made out to “Wat San Fran” at 2645 Lincoln Way, SF, CA 94122; or donate via paypal. Donations to a 501(c)(3) charitable organization are tax-deductible. For more information, please call (415) 753-0857 or email:
