In the Velama Sutta, the Buddha explained how when giving alms, the merit the giver receives is linked to the worthiness of the recipient. We often hear how giving alms to the Buddha bears incredible fruit. So you may be surprised to discover that the fruit of giving alms to one hundred Buddhas pales in comparison to the fruit of giving alms to an order of monks (sangha). And the fruit of giving alms to one hundred sanghas pales in comparison to the fruit of giving alms to build a monastery.
Thus, one of the easiest and best ways to achieve high merit is to give alms to a worthy temple. When you donate to San Fran Dhammaram Temple (a teaching temple founded by an enlightened monk), not only are you making merit with a worthy sangha, you are also helping to build a monastery. Your donations support the SFDT community, fund various media projects like animated Buddhist stories and Dhamma book printing, and enable SFDT to continue to host Dhamma retreats.

Dāna Wish List
Supporters often ask what items are most helpful to the temple’s daily operations or suitable for Sangha-dana offering. To help make your offering more meaningful and practical, we’ve put together a list of suggested items below. If you’d like to contribute, please feel free to reach out to us by email or call so we can confirm current needs. We’ll do our best to keep this list updated as things change. We deeply appreciate your kindness. Anumodana.
If you choose to ship items directly to the temple, kindly inform us in advance. Packages sometimes arrive without a sender’s name, making it difficult to identify the donor. Letting us know ensures we can properly acknowledge your gift and confirm its arrival.
