Magha Puja Day
This day celebrates the gathering of 1,250 of the Buddha’s first disciples, who were ordained by the Buddha himself and who arrived without any coordination. This event occurred on a full moon day. At that event, the Buddha preached the Ovadha-Patimokha in which he laid out the core principles of Buddhism.
Ovadhapatimokha
This teaching, which is considered the “Heart of Buddhism” states:
Cease to do evil,
Cultivate that which is good,
Purify the mind,
This is the teaching of Buddhas
